I’m an Associate Professor of Philosophy at UCLA. I have written papers about curiosity, love, conversation, hypocrisy, moral criticism, and interpersonal influence. I teach on a wide range of topics in contemporary normative theory and in the history of ancient and modern ethics and political thought.
I’m currently working on two book projects. The Democratic Soul: Philosophy and the Politics of Soul-Making is about how our ideas of the self interact with our conceptions of democratic community. Freedom and Futurity: Ethics after Simone de Beauvoir, co-authored with Jonathan Gingerich, is about Beauvoir’s moral philosophy; our paper on her metaethics is a good introduction to this project.
